About The Position

Support microbial strain and product development pipelines through strain engineering and gene expression strategies. Support storage and maintenance of microbial stock cultures, ensuring proper documentation and viability. Design and perform basic molecular biology workflows, including PCR, Western blot, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid purification, gene assembly and cloning. Develop and execute experiments for enzyme engineering and optimization, including directed evolution and rational design approaches. Develop and validate high-throughput screening assays for enzyme activity, stability, and specificity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process development and manufacturing, to support scale-up and technology transfer. Express protein production in bacterial and fungal hosts to improve yield and functionality. Perform and interpret basic biochemical analyses, including protein gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, fluorescence labeling, and activity assays. Develop and implement structured training programs for new Research and Development (R&D) staff members. Assist with the day-to-day oversight of the associate level scientists and technicians. Participate in new technology evaluation, development, and implementation. Document, compile, and analyze experimental data in electronic laboratory notebooks. Communicate results at team meetings, contributing to experimental designs. Adhere to established protocols and safety best practices. Interface and productively collaborate with members of cross-organizational teams. Contribute to development projects including planning, strategic direction, experimental design, data analysis and interpretation. Identify technical issues, troubleshooting, solve problems and achieve clear resolution. Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with applicable scientific, regulatory, and intellectual property requirements. Prepare technical reports.

Requirements

  • Must have a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field OR a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field and three (3) years of industrial scientific bench experience.
  • Experience must include: protein expression; microbial strain optimization; biochemical characterization involving molecular biology enzymes; conducting technical troubleshooting through root cause analysis, documentation and issue resolution; computational tools for protein design, sequence analysis, and structural modeling; enzyme kinetics, structure function relationships, and biocatalysis.
  • Experience can be gained through academic coursework, research assistantship, or work experience.
