About The Position

This role is a key member of the community impact team. Serving as the local team member in Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties to lead grantmaking, collective impact and partner relationships. Working closely with the community impact teams in Jackson County and the Capital Area, this role will support strategies and initiatives that create positive impact across our regional service area. This position can work fully in-person or on a hybrid model. Our hybrid work schedule includes three days a week in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This position is located out of the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek offices. Occasional travel within the region is required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and ability to apply anti-oppressive and anti-racist principles in the workplace.
  • Previous experience in human services, public policy, community organizing, and/or community impact initiatives. This may include experience supporting local, regional or broader programs, grant-writing or grant administration, volunteer coordination, and/or formal education such as an associate's or bachelor's degree in non-profit leadership and administration, organizational development, social work, public policy, or other related field.
  • Demonstrate project management/continuous improvement skills, aligning outcomes to strategic priorities and goals, and building strong relationships with community members, community leaders, and organizations.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent organizational and communication (both written and oral) skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing work environment.
  • Good problem solver, consensus builder, and decision maker.
  • Proficiency in using database software and Microsoft 365 applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organizational culture that centers people in every solution, process and function.
  • Advances collective impact strategies that center equity, diversity, and inclusion, including shared decision-making and centering the experiences of Asset-Limited, Income Constrained Employed (ALICE) households.
  • Represents United Way to organizations and individuals within both geographical area of focus and greater UWSCMI region (as appropriate).
  • Work with cross-functional partners across UWSCMI, coordinate volunteer engagement opportunities, community partner events, and collective impact initiatives with partners across sectors.
  • Co-create and activate community impact goals and strategies including data-informed research, developing methodology, analyzing data, developing and managing budgets, and sharing information in the form of reports, summary documents, and presentations.
  • Adapt and respond to emerging needs through creative, collaborative solutions to systemic problems facing ALICE households.
  • Support equity, diversity, and inclusion-centered investment priorities. Ensure that ALICE, Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC), and other oppressed community-serving organizations have equitable access to, and influence in, the investment of UWSCMI resources.
  • Support grantmaking lifecycle, including but not limited to: development of the Grant Guide, application and reporting process, providing technical assistance and support to applicants and grantees, utilization of e-CImpact grantmaking software, volunteer coordination, completing grant review and facilitating consensus-based decision making, and ongoing relationship building and communication with those who receive UWSCMI grants.
  • Represent the community impact team internally and with external partners.
  • Contribute to cross-functional, inter-organizational, and network initiatives that foster deep collaboration and relationship-building across UWSCMI and our region.
  • May provide supervision to interns or other temporary staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
