About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Principal Investigator for an on-call, as needed opportunity (part-time) within our Cultural Resources practice. The Senior Archaeologist is a core member of the Cultural Resources Program in the region, with responsibility for successfully executing projects and leading all aspects of project implementation. This remote position will report to an EPP Greater West Team Leader and will integrate with AECOM’s Cultural Resources team operating out of the Denver, CO office. The Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator. Candidates will contribute to growth of department through marketing pursuits including proposal preparation, interviews, and business development. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in cultural resource management and meets the Secretary of Interior’s professional qualification standards in Archaeology.
  • Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the region.
  • Current valid driver’s license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office.
  • Experience communicating and interacting with Tribal communities.
  • Relevant field experience in the region.
  • Experience with implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Experience with career development of junior and mid-level archaeologists.
  • Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology).
  • Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.
  • Knowledge of regional and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Managing projects that may include survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
  • Managing and executing archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping.
  • Working thoughtfully and efficiently both independently and as part of a larger cultural resources team.
  • Operating as primary author or senior reviewer, as appropriate.
  • Supervising personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.
  • Performing project management duties such as forecasting, tracking, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and scheduling.
  • Reviewing contracts for understanding of scope, fee, schedule, and deliverables, and all other contractual obligations
  • Developing work breakdown structure for control and integrity of work to be performed as and defined by the contract.
  • Monitoring and analyzing project costs, commitments, accruals, and changes, and taking corrective action where necessary
  • Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Organizing data in an efficient and clear manner.
  • Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to the Team Leader
  • Operating as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects, as needed
  • Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check ins, and day-to-day interfacing
  • Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel.
  • Innovation and a problem solving.
  • Successfully preparing competitive proposals.
