About The Position

The Virginia-based Client is looking an experienced Senior Application Support Specialists to join their IT Technology Services team. In this role, you will be the technical backbone supporting critical enterprise data platforms. If you enjoy diving deep into complex systems—from scripting to cloud infrastructure—and thrive in a collaborative environment, this is the opportunity for you. This position follows a unique hybrid schedule: you will alternate one week working fully onsite in Richmond with one week working fully remote. You will also participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide first-line support for critical systems. Requirements

  • Scripting Expertise: Strong proficiency in PowerShell and Perl is required, along with experience in Shell, Python, or R.
  • Containerization: Hands-on experience setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting applications in Kubernetes/HA environments.
  • Cloud Knowledge: Solid understanding of cloud architecture and connectivity in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in application or system support.
  • Shell, R, Python, PowerShell or Perl: 3 years (Required)
  • Kubernetes/HA environments: 3 years (Required)
  • AWS/GCP/Azure: 3 years (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or certifications with Snowflake, Informatica, Denodo, or Dataiku.
  • Previous experience working in the utilities industry.

Responsibilities

  • Manage & Optimize Environments: Install, configure, and manage application infrastructure to support enterprise data teams, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Monitor & Troubleshoot: Proactively monitor system health using logs and dashboards. Perform root cause analysis and resolve complex application or connectivity issues.
  • Secure Access & Ensure Compliance: Manage authentication (LDAP/AD, RBAC/ABAC) and enforce SSO/MFA policies. Ensure all practices meet strict governance and data protection standards, including SOX compliance.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with architects, developers, DevOps, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless application operations and resolve vendor escalations.
  • Control Cloud Costs: Track and optimize cloud resources (e.g., Snowflake credits, compute scaling) to manage spend effectively.
  • Drive Quality & Knowledge Sharing: Create and execute test cases for application validation. Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge transfer.
