About The Position

TradeSmith™, a leading financial technology company, is seeking a highly detail-oriented Senior Analyst to join our Research team. In this role, you will own the execution, validation, and interpretation of portfolio backtests across predefined and exploratory strategies, oversee performance reporting, and perform complex, time-sensitive data analysis that directly informs the development and enhancement of our investment research products. The Senior Analyst will serve as a trusted analytical partner to the Chief Quantitative Strategist and Product teams, ensuring research outputs are accurate, scalable, and production-ready. This role requires strong independent judgment, ownership of analytical workflows, and the ability to identify improvements in both research methodology and internal tooling. This position provides the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the development and ongoing improvement of TradeSmith’s research products. The Senior Analyst will apply analytical rigor, sound judgment, and technical expertise while working closely with experienced researchers to deliver high-quality, production-ready research that supports informed decision-making for our members. Requirements

  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills, with the ability to independently assess data quality, validate results, and identify methodological issues.
  • Proven attention to detail and analytical rigor, particularly in the context of backtesting, performance analysis, and quantitative research workflows.
  • Advanced proficiency with structured data and analytical tools, including Excel and Python, for data analysis, validation, and reporting.
  • Experience working with large datasets and relational data environments, including the ability to write, modify, and optimize SQL-based queries (e.g., Snowflake or similar platforms).
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document methodologies, assumptions, and results for internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver accurate results under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including research, product, and technical stakeholders, to support production-ready analytical outputs.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a continuous-improvement mindset, with a track record of identifying opportunities to improve tools, workflows, or analytical processes.
  • Primarily in-office work with flexibility to accommodate support needs and meetings.
  • Ability to use standard office tools and technology for extended periods.
  • Visual acuity and auditory ability for digital communications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the execution, validation, and interpretation of portfolio backtests using internal backtesting tools, Python, and related analytical platforms across predefined and exploratory strategies, ensuring analytical rigor and consistency of results.
  • Review and quality-control all backtest outputs and data queries for accuracy, completeness, and methodological soundness prior to use in research deliverables or product development.
  • Produce and maintain standardized performance reports, including key metrics such as returns, volatility, drawdowns, and comparative benchmark analysis.
  • Execute and optimize time-sensitive data queries using Snowflake and other internal data tools to support research, product, and market-driven analysis needs.
  • Identify, document, and communicate issues or enhancement opportunities related to internal research tools, backtesting workflows, and data query templates.
  • Design and maintain reusable analytical templates and processes to improve efficiency, scalability, and repeatability of research operations.
  • Synthesize findings into concise written summaries for research updates, highlighting key results, anomalies, and insights.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Quantitative Strategist, Product Managers, and senior researchers to support ongoing research initiatives and ensure analytical outputs are production-ready.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource for analytical best practices and backtesting standards within the research team.
  • Supervise two or more junior research analysts when fully staffed.
