About The Position

The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation (Foundation) is a foundation created to enhance and expand the ability of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology (Alliance) to conduct cancer clinical research and address important treatment questions through large-scale clinical trials. Through efforts of the Foundation in support of the Alliance, clinical trials and laboratory research are conducted to discover new or improved ways to prevent, treat, and cure many types of cancer, including leukemia and lymphoma, and cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, and gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and help educate the medical community on methods of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. In May 2014, the Foundation created the Alliance Foundation Trials, LLC (AFT), respectively, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Foundation. AFT was also created to conduct cancer clinical research and address medical care and treatment through large-scale clinical trials involving various industry-related partners. This role is instrumental in defining, documenting, and promoting standardized technical infrastructure requirements and practices to support current and future applications. The position will report to the Director, Business Systems and Analytics (BSA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum requirements include knowledge and skill developed through 7+ years’ work experience in a related job discipline
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing large-scale software support frameworks and services.
  • Proven experience developing authentication, authorization, and domain modeling solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and infrastructure best practices.
  • Experience with security models and protocols for authentication and authorization.
  • Proficiency in designing and managing common domain models for enterprise solutions.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) is an asset.
  • Strong documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Experience with Linux and ability to work from the command line e.g., bash scripting
  • Experience with Javascript, CSS, and associated web technologies
  • Experience with RDBMS and SQL
  • Experience with web services especially RESTful
  • Comfortable with Git and IDEs such as Eclipse
  • Experience with Junit and other testing frameworks and continuous integration such as Jenkins, Travis CI, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to drive organizational adoption of standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulatory environments or industries with strict data security requirements.
  • Exposure to microservices, API design, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience in technical governance or standards bodies.
  • Experience with systems for conducting clinical research
  • Experience with functional programming using Scala, Play Framework, and SBT
  • Experience with cloud-based development, deployment, and production with AWS and Heroku.
  • Experience with Postgres and SQL aggregate functions
  • Experience with Wikis and Issue Trackers, especially Confluence and JIRA.
  • Experience with BitBucket
  • Knowledge of SSO and SAML2. Pac4J experience is ideal.
  • Experience with Agile/Lean/Kanban methods and with DevOps
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of several older component systems, such as Liferay and Oracle Siebel

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement core application support frameworks and services, including authentication, authorization, and other foundational components.
  • Create and maintain a standardized common domain model for use in all future software development and integration efforts.
  • Develop, document, and promote technical infrastructure standards and best practices to ensure consistency, security, and efficiency in software development.
  • Collaborate closely with Director BSA, COO and cross-functional teams to ensure proposed frameworks and standards align with organizational needs.
  • Lead technical reviews, guide architectural decisions, and participate in technology selection.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvements to technical infrastructure, frameworks, and services to support evolving business requirements.
  • Provide thought leadership and mentorship in technical standardization and framework design.
  • Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and other regulatory obligations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and framework-related issues.
  • Uses best practices and database knowledge to determine the impact of making database changes on other systems.
  • Solves complex database problems and modifies database programs to increase processing performance.
  • Codes database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database management systems.
  • Tests for consistency and reliability of data throughout database systems.
  • Designs and monitors database administration procedures including backup and recovery tests and corrects errors and implements changes to databases.
  • Maintain and update Alliance Database Applications
  • Maintain and update Alliance Publications Database
  • Create, maintain and update reports from CTSU database as needed for Alliance Programs
  • Update and maintain all Conflict of Interest (COI) database and applications
  • Maintain and update pharmaceutical information in data base as applicable
