About The Position

Under general direction, the Senior Prospect Development Analyst provides best-in-class prospect research, portfolio management, and analytical support to assigned fundraising units. This role plays a critical part in maximizing the philanthropic potential of the University of Denver’s prospect pool by identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing major ($50K+) and leadership gift-level ($1M+) prospects. The Senior Analyst operates as a strategic partner to development officers—translating complex data into actionable insight, informing portfolio and pipeline strategy, and supporting campaign priorities through rigorous analysis and thoughtful consultation. In addition to day-to-day prospect development work, the role contributes to team-wide strategy, mentors other analysts, and provides subject-matter expertise in advanced areas of prospect research and portfolio management. Success in this role is demonstrated through impact, quality, and partnership. The ideal candidate is a seasoned prospect development professional who combines strong analytical skill with sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a collaborative mindset. They are comfortable working with ambiguity, can move fluidly between data and strategy, and are motivated by supporting relationship-based fundraising at a high level. They bring a service-oriented approach, value confidentiality, and are eager to contribute to both individual and team success. The position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with approval.

Requirements

  • Advanced ability to gather, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate complex information from multiple sources
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insight
  • Demonstrated knowledge of prospect development practices, including identification, research, portfolio management, and analysis
  • Familiarity with industry standard prospect research tools and data sources (e.g., LNDP, LexisNexus, ResearchPoint, iWave, Foundation Directory, RelSci)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with fundraisers and stakeholders in a consultative role
  • Capacity to contribute meaningfully to strategic discussions and long term planning
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 5 years of professional experience including 3 years of experience in prospect research, data analysis, or related analytical work

Responsibilities

  • Prospect Research & Identification Conduct in depth research on individuals, foundations, and corporations to support major and leadership gift fundraising Analyze biographic, business, financial, and philanthropic data, including liquidity events, to inform solicitation strategies and timing Prepare clear, accurate, and concise research profiles and briefings for development officers and leadership
  • Portfolio & Pipeline Strategy Serve as liaison to assigned fundraising units, advising on portfolio composition, segmentation, and optimization Conduct portfolio, pipeline, and prospect pool analyses to inform strategic decision making Support ongoing management of the University’s prospect pool
  • Data Analysis & Prospecting Tools Leverage prospecting tools, data screenings, and predictive models to identify and prioritize prospects Collaborate with Advancement partners on the development and application of new analytical models Evaluate targeted groups and overall prospect pool performance
  • Strategic Projects & Campaign Support Assist the Director of Prospect Development with special projects, including campaign related initiatives Contribute to setting and advancing strategic goals for the Prospect Development team Provide subject matter expertise in advanced prospect research or portfolio management topics
  • Data Stewardship, Training & Collaboration Ensure timely and accurate entry of key prospect information into the CRM and communicate updates to stakeholders Provide training and guidance to development officers within assigned units Mentor and advise Prospect Development Analysts as a senior team resource Serve as an active, collaborative partner across Advancement and campus, modeling “One DU” leadership
