About The Position

Senior Airplane Safety Engineer Company: The Boeing Company Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Senior Airplane Safety Engineer to support the 777X airplane program onsite in Everett, WA. This is a high-visibility role with direct responsibility for supporting airplane safety, airworthiness, and regulatory certification activities in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. The successful candidate will provide independent technical leadership in the development, integration, and approval of safety and airworthiness data supporting initial certification and continued operational safety. This role requires a strong understanding of airworthiness regulations, certification processes, and airplane safety principles, along with the ability to integrate safety considerations across multiple airplane systems. This position requires the ability to lead through influence rather than authority, working across systems engineering, design engineering, program management, and regulatory organizations to resolve complex safety and compliance issues. The role operates with minimal direction and requires sound engineering judgment, strong integration skills, and clear communication in support of program and regulatory commitments. Position Overview: Safety & Airworthiness Engineering Perform, review, and approve airplane safety and airworthiness analyses in support of 777X certification and compliance Develop and assess safety artifacts including safety assessments, compliance findings, and certification data Ensure safety and airworthiness requirements are properly flowed, verified, validated, and integrated across airplane systems Certification & Regulatory Compliance Support FAA and other regulatory authority engagements, including data submittals, findings, and issue resolution Ensure engineering products comply with applicable airworthiness regulations, certification plans, and safety requirements Identify and address safety or compliance risks that could impact certification, operational approval, or continued airworthiness Integration & Technical Leadership Act as a safety integrator, identifying cross-system interfaces, dependencies, and emergent safety risks Integrate safety, systems engineering, design engineering, and program considerations into cohesive compliance strategies Lead cross-functional discussions to resolve complex, multi-discipline safety and airworthiness issues Influence & Stakeholder Engagement Lead through influence across engineering, program, and certification stakeholders without formal authority Provide clear technical recommendations and risk assessments to engineering and program leadership Build trusted relationships with internal teams and external regulatory partners Program Visibility & Readiness Provide execution status, risk visibility, and certification readiness assessments to leadership Support milestone readiness reviews and certification planning activities Contribute to continuous improvement of safety and airworthiness engineering processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience leading through influence and partnering with cross-functional teams on projects, transactions or initiatives

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience do you have with airworthiness
  • Experience working with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the Boeing Safety Airworthiness (SAW), and EMAR 21 (European Military Airworthiness Requirements) processes
  • Experience with Systems Engineering & Integration and Airplane Safety
  • Experience in systems engineering including system architecture, requirements and interface development and allocation, verification and validation, integration and test, system trades, RCCA/FRACAS, and risk management
  • Experience working in safety-critical or highly regulated industries

Responsibilities
