About The Position

The Berkley One Finance & Accounting team is growing as our business continues to expand and evolve. We’re seeking an experienced Senior Finance and Accounting Manager to play a key role across both the Berkley One operating unit and the newly launched Berkley Embedded Solutions unit. In this role, you will have opportunity to contribute meaningfully to two dynamic businesses, support strategic decision‑making, and help strengthen the financial foundation of our organization. This role will be based in our Morristown, NJ or Stamford, CT office. We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so. Requirements

  • 10+ years of finance/accounting experience working in the P&C Insurance industry
  • Strong working knowledge of insurance accounting principles from a U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory reporting perspective
  • Excellent technology skills including, but not limited to, experience using enterprise ERPs (PeopleSoft preferred), Essbase cubes, Excel, and planning technologies
  • Experience in developing and measuring against forecasts and plans
  • Expertise in developing business models and business cases
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent documentation acumen – financial and non-financial
  • Solid understanding of basic controls, how to establish a control environment, and SOX principles
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Reinsurance accounting experience
  • Experience/familiarity with emerging insurance technology platforms and partner arrangements
  • Private Client, High Net Worth (HNW)/Personal Lines experience
  • Experience working with offshore/outsourced resources
  • Experience with AI tools

Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly close process for both operating units including preparing/reviewing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and preparing financial and management reports.
  • Review actual results versus prior period and forecast/budget to identify variances and develop commentary.
  • Execution or review of various controls and review procedures.
  • Support the business in developing profitability models, business cases, profit sharing plans,
  • Foster continuous improvement to improve processes, reduce manual workflows, better leverage technology, and improve controls.
  • Continuously learn about the business and areas of technical responsibility so that we can continuously improve how we serve the business. This includes helping evolve the finance team to be a business partner and valued advisor to the organization.
  • Continuously evolve and enhance the control environment.
  • Focus on incremental improvement of processes each month.
  • Optimize the use of onshore and offshore resources.
