About The Position

The Senior Accountant will support the Controller in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and maintaining effective financial controls. This position plays a vital role in the financial health of FPHNYC by managing accounting processes and supporting audits and grant reporting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant compliance.
Experience with financial management software and reporting systems.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

Assist in financial reporting processes.
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant reporting requirements.
Support the preparation of financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Assist with the annual audit process and tax filings.
Strengthen internal financial controls and policies.
Work closely with program teams to track and report grant expenditures accurately.
Help optimize financial systems and reporting tools for efficiency and accuracy.
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
Carry out additional duties assigned to support the overall goals, mission, and strategic priorities of the department and organization.
