OVERVIEW: The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the company by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting in month-end closing, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within the accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of related accounting experience in the construction and/or manufacturing industry.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and robust ERP systems, with experience in Microsoft Dynamics being a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and propose solutions effectively and independently
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, able to convey information clearly and interact with diverse teams.
  • Ability to convey detailed and accurate instructions and information verbally.
  • Ability to hear with or without correction for receiving and interpreting detailed information.
  • Ability to sit at a desk workstation for varying periods.
  • Capability to push, pull, lift, reach, and carry at least 10 pounds, occasionally lifting/moving up to 35 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Occasional walking and standing are required.
  • Visual acuity with or without correction for reading documentation, analyzing data, and using electronic devices.
  • Use of fingers and hands for operating a computer or other electronic devices.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in accounting for inventory, including cost accounting methods, is preferred.
  • Sales and use tax experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial statement preparation and experience with balance sheet and income statement analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes by ensuring all transactions are recorded and reconciled accurately, contributing to timely financial reporting.
  • Manage general ledger entries, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, verifying the accuracy and completeness of accounts, and investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Record daily bank transactions and perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring that all bank activities are properly reflected in the general ledger and that any discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Prepare and file sales and use taxes, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and submitting returns in a timely manner.
  • Manage property tax filings, ensuring accurate reporting and timely submissions.
  • Process and manage contractor and business license applications and renewals.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including maintaining accurate records of acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Assist in the preparation and publication of financial statements.
  • Support year-end audit preparation by compiling and organizing necessary schedules, work papers, and reports for the external auditors.
  • Perform Income Statement variance analysis, comparing actual performance to budgeted amounts, and assist in the budget preparation process to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Assist in monthly margin analysis at a financial statement level concerning projects and lines of business. Reporting on margin anomalies on business lines and overall company level.
  • Support revenue and cost functions, assisting with the accurate allocation of revenue and cost to ensure proper financial reporting.
  • Assist in ensuring tax compliance by preparing necessary documentation and reports.
  • Work closely with the Controller to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
