About The Position

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial health and integrity of Gladney Center for Adoption. As a member of a small, collaborative finance team, this position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing organizational needs. The Senior Accountant supports financial reporting, compliance, and analysis while demonstrating a willingness to grow professionally and contribute to the long-term success of the organization and its mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Two years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Ability to thrive in a small-team environment and successfully juggle multiple competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with grants management, donor-restricted funds, and nonprofit audits.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting systems and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Perform general ledger maintenance, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Oversee account reconciliations for cash, grants, restricted funds, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, providing insights to leadership.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and donor-designated contributions.
  • Support annual audits, Form 990 preparation, and other regulatory and compliance reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams in a small-team environment where collaboration and flexibility are essential.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency within accounting operations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned to support organizational objectives and enhance operational efficiency.
