Senior Accountant
About The Position
The Sr Accountant will prepare monthly general journal entries and provide accounting and analytical support during the month-end close process. This role involves performing account analyses and variance explanations for quarterly reviews and annual audits. The successful candidate will apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information for the preparation of financial reports and ensure compliance with accounting policies. Additionally, the Sr Accountant will investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities, prepare account reconciliations, and review staff accountant work for accuracy and completeness.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding and application of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail is essential.
- Ability to multi-task and work extra hours during month-end close as needed.
Nice To Haves
- CPA certification is a plus.
- Masters/MBA degree is a plus.
- Combined experience in public accounting and the private sector is a plus.
- Experience in the cruise industry is a plus.
- Experience with PeopleSoft software or large company ERP systems is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly general journal entries and provide support during month-end close.
- Perform account analyses and variance explanations for quarterly reviews and annual audits.
- Apply accounting principles to analyze financial information for financial reports preparation.
- Ensure compliance of financial records with accounting policies and procedures.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Prepare account reconciliations including prepaids and accruals.
- Review staff accountant work for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Assist management with special projects such as implementing departmental policies, procedures, and controls.
- Evaluate and streamline processes to create efficiencies within the department.
