You will manage complex accounting responsibilities with confidence and precision, owning critical components of the monthly close process and supporting high-level financial reporting. Partnering closely with the Controller, you will contribute to financial analysis, assess internal controls, resolve discrepancies, and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established standards. Your ability to meet deadlines, safeguard financial data, and maintain exceptional attention to detail will directly support the financial health and strategic decision-making of the organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on accountability, takes pride in technical accuracy, and enjoys being a trusted contributor within a high-performing finance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience (agency or fast-paced environment preferred)
  • Exposure to budget vs. actual analysis and supporting forecast inputs
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
  • Excel and/or Google Sheets proficiency

Nice To Haves

  • Quickbooks Online experience preferred
  • CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification
  • Experience with payroll systems, expense tools, or PEOs preferred
  • Familiarity with task management tools (Asana preferred)
  • Experience supporting audits or external accountants

Responsibilities

  • Independently own assigned sections of the monthly close process from start to finish.
  • Prepare and post accurate monthly journal entries, including payroll, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Fully own general ledger reconciliations, proactively investigating and resolving discrepancies without heavy oversight.
  • Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and ensure multi-state payroll tax compliance.
  • Identify root causes of variances and implement corrective actions to maintain financial accuracy.
  • Support the preparation of preliminary financial statements and ensure close deadlines are met.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation accurately in accordance with GAAP.
  • Process and review payroll, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and pay changes
  • Collect, verify, and process payments to vendors, contractors, and affiliates
  • Manage expense management tools and employee expense reimbursements
  • Oversee employee corporate credit cards and ensure proper documentation
  • Manage and ensure multi-state payroll tax compliance, including accurate tax filings and regulatory adherence.
  • Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger monthly, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks Online
  • Maintain clean balance sheet reconciliations with no lingering items and proactively identify process improvements.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets using Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Support ad hoc financial reporting, audits, and special projects
  • Assist team members with various financial reports, projects, and other duties as needed
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, HR, and Leadership
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times
