Requirements

  • Operational Finance Experience (Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Bookkeeping Manager,etc.) or Public Practice, managing end-to-end accounting operations.
  • Deep technical expertise in bookkeeping, payroll compliance, and accounting controls—with the confidence to review, problem-solve, and mentor others on complex issues.
  • Proven leadership experience, capable of coaching and managing performance across bookkeeping, payroll, or outsourced finance teams.
  • Fluency in cloud accounting systems like Xero, QBO, MYOB, and integrated tools such as KeyPay, Dext, and ApprovalMax; skilled at troubleshooting and workflow optimisation.
  • A process improvement mindset—driven by data, automation, and continuous improvement to enhance accuracy, tighten SLAs, and standardise documentation.

  • CA or CPA qualification is a nice to have!

Responsibilities

  • Manage allocation of workflows across your team, balancing capacity, skill, and deadlines
  • Monitor daily workflows and ensure every step meets its SLA
  • Identify at-risk tasks early; re-allocate or escalate to keep work on track
  • Communicate ad-hoc workflow changes and scope shifts to your team
  • Keep workflows up-to-date so they accurately reflect the scope, frequency, and deliverables for each customer
  • Own the technical accuracy and compliance of all work produced under your team
  • Review key workflow milestones and submissions
  • Track error rates, run root-cause analysis, and feed insights to Product & Quality teams
  • Act as first point of contact for technical questions on bookkeeping, payroll, or platform nuances
  • Support Business Performance Partners (BPPs) with complex, customer-facing technical issues—join calls when needed
  • Investigate significant errors; craft remediation plans and confirm fixes
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Bookkeepers and Payroll Officers
  • Run regular 1:1s, feedback loops, and performance reviews
  • Build clear career pathways and foster a customer-centric mindset
  • Manage Expert performance; address under-performance promptly
  • Ensure Experts keep customer documentation, manuals, and process notes current
  • Champion consistent process adherence and version control across the team
