About The Position

Purpose: Responsible for all areas relating to programmatic financial reporting, budget development and monitoring. Responsible for oversight of the payroll department including payroll procedures, payroll processing and reporting. Act as a back-up for the Billing Manager and Finance Supervisor with the ability to perform those duties when necessary.

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in finance, business administration or accounting. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license strongly preferred, though a Master of Business Administration (MBA) may be considered. Proof of license and/or degree required.
  • A minimum of three years of accounting and finance experience with a nonprofit that has multiple complex programs or experience with a company using cost accounting.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience directing technical, professional, and clerical personnel.
  • Technology savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to program departments.
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, organizational and computer skills, as well as the ability to exercise professional discretion and discernment, independent judgement, and business acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-by-day finance operations of programmatic budgeting and financial reporting and payroll.
  • Ensure complete, accurate and timely reporting of all monthly programmatic financial information and account reconciliations.
  • Oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports as required by funders. Adhere to all reporting deadlines.
  • Oversight of monthly internal reports for applicable financial departments and distributes accordingly to program managers. Meet with program managers on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in creating agency cost reports and CFR. Provide enough time for proper review of reports.
  • Work with supervisors to consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicates monthly financial statements; monitors progress and changes and keeps the Comptroller and Financial Reporting and Payroll Manager abreast of program statuses.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving payroll on a weekly basis and assisting with the completion of key payroll functions as necessary.
  • Reviews and approves all weekly and monthly payroll-related general ledger entries.
  • Act as a back-up for the Billing Manager by gaining an understanding of all billing and accounts receivable processes and procedures. Perform billing and accounts receivable procedures on an occasional basis to ensure proper back-up and knowledge of the position.
  • Act as a back-up for the Finance Supervisor by gaining an understanding of all accounts payable, purchasing and banking processes and procedures. Perform those procedures on an occasional basis to ensure proper back-up and knowledge of the position.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities for all programs.
  • Maintain written procedures related to programmatic financial reporting and payroll.
  • Monitors and analyses department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Effectively handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, training, etc.
  • Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization and creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment.
