Values: Be Safe | Do the Right Thing | Be Generous | Include Everyone | Make it Easy | Be Bold Reporting to the Sr. Director of Finance, Hospitality and Corporate Partnerships, the Senior Accountant will play a significant role in leading the daily accounting operations and controllership functions across the OC Sports & Entertainment Market Hall, Restaurant Management and Sponsorship businesses. The Senior Accountant evaluates and analyzes financial activities and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records. The role develops and maintains processes for accurate journal entries and enforces policies and internal controls. The Senior Accountant uses accounting principles, financial analysis, and knowledge of regulatory compliance to support the accounting and finance function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in operations-intensive accounting roles
  • Expert-level knowledge of GAAP principles, actuals vs. budget analysis, policies, and procedures, and the ability to apply these to complex and high-volume transactions
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Oracle NetSuite is preferred
  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and independently and consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and mentor junior staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with analytical abilities
  • Servant-leader mentality with exceptional work ethic and high self-imposed standard of personal/professional integrity
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience Education - Bachelor's Degree Experience Required - 5+ Year's
  • This position is on-site.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in hospitality, multi-use real estate, and entertainment environments is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage Sponsorship revenue recognition and commission expense process, invoicing, analyze related contractual agreements, and record related revenue and expense transactions in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Prepare and record journal entries accurately and timely as part of the month-end close process
  • Support transaction processing, research, analysis, and reporting through effective use of multiple financial ERP systems
  • Provide accounting support to requesting parties and cross-functional teams, including assistance with periodic forecasting/budgeting, variance analysis, cash flow planning, and labor allocations
  • Execute and manage transaction processes for Market Hall daily sales cash settlement, revenue sharing, and other related cash and expense reconciliations
  • Process transaction uploads, tax validation, inventory and vendor purchases, and month-end close for Market Hall operations
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, perform thorough account analyses and transaction research, and resolve issues and discrepancies promptly
  • Prepare and review monthly intercompany billings and facilitate cash management and intercompany cash settlement process
  • Review and provide general ledger account and department assignments for accounts payable transactions in accordance with budget and accounting principles
  • Provide research and support in the preparation of financial forecasts and variance analysis, and assist in other duties, special projects and ad-hoc reporting as assigned
  • Support the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable function and applicable junior staff
  • Prepare, file, and pay monthly and quarterly sales tax returns
