About The Position

Under general supervision, Senior Account Clerks are responsible for advanced clerical accounting duties involving the preparation, maintenance, review, auditing, and processing of financial and statistical records, reports, and claims. Incumbents may serve as lead workers and/or perform the more complex tasks in the work unit where significant independent judgment and decision-making is required. Some positions in this class may be designated "confidential" in nature, in accordance with the County Employee Relations Ordinance, and are excluded from the representation unit which includes positions allocated to the regular classes.Knowledge of Principles of lead work responsibilities and leadership Employee training techniques and methods General principles, procedures, terminology and practices used in financial and statistical clerical record keeping including posting, computing totals, reconciling accounts, and reviewing balance sheets General accounting principles, including a basic understanding of debits and credits Principles and practices of customer service Arithmetic to make calculations and give correct change, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions General business computer applications including spreadsheet, database and word-processing software Correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary usage Standard methods of filing (alphabetic, numeric, chronological) and record keeping Appropriate letter and memo format

Requirements

  • Two years of paid, full-time experience employed by Sacramento County in the class of Account Clerk.
  • Three years of paid, full-time experience preparing or reconciling financial or statistical records.
  • Completion of 30 semester units (45 quarter units) including two mathematics, bookkeeping, or accounting courses, from an accredited college or business school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Ability to lead and train subordinate staff
  • Prepare a variety of clerical accounting reports using spreadsheet, database and word-processing applications
  • Track/reconcile information between accounts and general ledgers
  • Understand, apply and explain departmental policies and procedures
  • Accurately proofread details, noting and detecting errors
  • Work independently and carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Prioritize work and meet deadlines, for self and others
  • Elicit information from inside/outside sources
  • Operate office equipment such as computer terminals, typewriters, printers, calculators, scanners, adding machines, cash registers, copiers, radios, telephones, and fax machines
  • Calculate solutions to math problems, and post and make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately, using addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, decimals, and fractions
  • Understand and explain procedural manuals, policy guidelines, etc.
  • Deal tactfully with people
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Read, write and speak English at a level necessary for successful job performance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
