About The Position

This position will provide support to Send Relief’s ministry objectives in meeting needs and changing live by establishing local ministry, coordinating compassion ministry among local churches, mobilizing volunteers by providing operational leadership within the Send Relief Team at the Ministry Center in Chicago. Due to the ministerial nature and duties of this role a clear and compelling sense of God’s call to ministry leadership must be expressed and in evidence. Ephesians 4:1, 11-13; Acts 13:2; Ephesians 3:8.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in contextualized or cross-cultural ministry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Evidence of a mature and growing Christian walk characterized, by Paul, in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 .
  • Personal wisdom and sufficiency are grounded in Christ and the word of God, with a life submitted to God’s authority in all things.
  • Models a daily soul-winning lifestyle.
  • Can effectively lead others in prayer.
  • Gives regularly and generously to the work of the church.
  • Readily applies scripture to personal and professional situations.
  • Can articulate Baptist theological understandings on a range of issues.
  • Conducts ministry in keeping with the principles and spirit of the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Enjoys healthy, affirming relationships with spouse (if married), family, neighbors and friends.
  • Exhibits integrity in professional and personal life.
  • Modest in dress and deportment and makes a favorable first impression in both bearing and manner.
  • Aware of personal strengths and shortcomings, potential, psychological needs, biases and prejudices, and actively solicits and benefits from constructive criticism.
  • Personal finances are in order, with no oppressive burden of consumer debt.
  • Is a member of a local Southern Baptist church and takes an active role as time permits .
  • Demonstrates a high level of energy, with a bright, positive affect , warmth and genuine interest in people.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Compassion Ministry Efforts
  • Serve as a key member of the Chicago Send Relief team.
  • Oversee compassion ministry initiatives through assessments, training, partnerships, networking, and mobilization.
  • Foster a movement of restoration-based compassion ministry among churches and church planters.
  • Support Networking and Partnerships
  • Collaborate with the Ministry Center Director to develop and sustain networks among churches, partners, and church planters.
  • Organize vision tours, mission trips, and other events to strengthen partnerships.
  • Expand Core Ministry Activities
  • Grow and support core ministry programs designed to serve Chicago communities.
  • Create practical learning environments to equip churches, partners, and individuals in contextualized compassion ministry practices.
  • Collaborate with Community Coalitions
  • Work with local ministry coalitions to address community, family, and individual needs.
  • Focus on relationship-building, meeting needs, and sharing the gospel as part of community outreach efforts.
  • Provide On-Site Leadership
  • Offer hands-on leadership to mission teams serving at the Ministry Center.
  • Maintain Relationships and Communication
  • Establish and sustain positive relationships with all ministry partners contributing to Send Relief.
  • Second-Line Leadership and Management
  • Support the leadership of Journeymen, Consultants, volunteers, and other staff at the Ministry Center.
  • Assist in mentoring and managing team members effectively.
  • Strategic Planning and Metrics
  • Collaborate with the Ministry Center Director to set goals and track progress using NAMB data systems.
  • Leverage online tools and applications to mobilize churches for compassion ministry.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Ministry Center leadership.
  • Follow organization’s policies and applicable laws .
  • Interview, hire, and train employees .
