About The Position

Facilities Development and Management, Facilities Management Knowledge Enterprise (KE) Facilities Services, Macro Technology Works (MTW), seeks a position in a Semiconductor role as a Gas/Chemical/LSS Hazmat Technician Specialists to conduct facility and equipment hazardous materials operations related to gas, chemicals and life safety systems. These positions will report to the Hazmat Supervisor and will be expected to work independently and within the MTW team. This position will be located at the ASU Research Park in Tempe, AZ; travel between campuses will be required to service gases and chemicals at different ASU facilities. Essential Duties Under the direction of the Hazardous Materials supervisor and in coordination with the facility director, the following duties will be performed:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39-month period from date of hire.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include respiratory clearance questionnaire, respiratory fit test and audiogram.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience: in handling chemicals, hazardous gases, and hazardous waste in the semiconductor environment or comparable environment, for at least 1 year gas monitoring, abatement systems, and fire alarm systems.
  • developing Standard Operating Procedures/design reviews.
  • Evidence of certificates or up-to-date training in of the following a plus, but will be provided to the right candidate: Forklift Respirator 40-hour HazWoper RCRA LOTO, Lock out tag out PPE selection/Use FGM/TGM maintenance/operation/repair ASU Lab Safety, Fire Safety, hazardous waste handling, and shipping. Compressed Gas training
  • Evidence of effective communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance of hazardous waste areas, bulk gas system, gas cabinets, gas wall panels and valve manifold boxes (VMB's) for abnormal conditions and identifies, localizes and documents alarms / abnormal conditions in site reporting system or communicate with appropriate parties.
  • Complete Chemical Inventory and Product Acceptance.
  • Forecasts usage requirement for lab/fab research chemicals.
  • Receive hazardous materials deliveries daily as needed.
  • Recommend component and system improvements that are consistent with current technology
  • Review gas / chemical system upgrades, installations, recommending improvements and solutions to problems at the discretion of the supervisor.
  • Collect, transport, segregate, accumulate, install, test and perform initial safety and quality checks and disposal of hazardous waste, gases, and chemicals for ASU Knowledge Enterprise departments and various facility tenants.
  • Determine proper disposal based on hazard classes and compatibility of chemicals, packages documents and labels waste for shipment to appropriate disposal facilities pursuant to disposal facility, state and federal requirements.
  • Maintain accumulation of facility records and database on all accumulated gases, chemicals, and hazardous waste streams, and schedule hazardous materials/waste collection, handling, and shipping for Macro technology campus location.
  • Ensure that the Safety Work Permit (SWP) program is followed and, properly notifying the appropriate parties in accordance with OSHA LO/TO.
  • Maintain logs and records of SWPs issued.
  • Assist in the identification of all valves requiring LO/TO.
  • Perform LO/TO on all valves of gas cabinets, inert gas panels, and the fabs point of connection for all gases.
  • Perform operational sustaining maintenance to all Toxic Gas Monitoring Systems (TGMS).
  • Coordinate and schedule all required outside service on the site TGMS.
  • Retain overall management of the TGMS to include accurate cataloging of points/location and building Fire Alarm System programming interfaces with TGMS.
  • Generate and maintain appropriate documentation and record keeping meeting environmental regulations for the Specialty Gas, Chemical, and Life Safety Systems
  • Advise faculty, staff, and students regarding proper waste management techniques and provide recommendations for appropriate action.
  • Act as a contributing member of the site emergency response team.
  • Provide input for planning for and responding to chemical and gas emergencies and supports the Site Emergency Response Team at the first responder awareness or operational levels.
  • Remain current with required safety training and attend training as scheduled. Additionally, presents educational or training sessions to faculty, staff, and tenants regarding hazardous materials and waste management handling techniques.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and safety reviews for resolutions to avoid potential problems under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Order and verify PPE for proper function replaces as needed and works directly with ASU EHS for chemical, gas and waste streams.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for site call out alarms or faults with all gas/chemical/LSS related events. Respond to all building alarms related to gas, chemical, and life safety systems that are within this scope: 24/7 with a 1-hour response time.
  • Perform other job-related duties such as buildouts, construction, design. To be further described in the position description provided during interviews.
