About The Position

Purpose: To assist in the creation and training of a cohesive team that will provide quality supports and services within the Self-Direction Department. The Specialist will provide a positive environment while building person-centered professionals that will have a basic understanding of Self- Direction. The Specialist and support new employees as they transition from new-hire training to their new role within Self-Direction. To provide education, training, and inspire to all new and current AIM Services Self-Direction staff. Actively support and model professional communication and expectations to new staff. Periodic and as needed training and support to current employees. Essential Functions: To provide development, inspiration, and provide oversight to both virtual and on-site education (as needed), training, support, and mentorship within the Self-Direction Program. Assist in the creation and delivery of Self-Direction information and education to all new members of the Self-Direction department. To consistently communicate training successes and concerns with leadership. Promote individualized supports and experiences, ensuring people’s hopes, dreams, and values are priority. Cultivate a culture in which the choices, beliefs, and values of all the people we serve are celebrated. Innovate and facilitate designing and/or modifying general trainings and materials inclusive for all. Assist in current and complete documentation of education including matrixes and certification for all employees. Assist in establishing standards, policies and procedures to assure maintenance of credentials and staff development. Empower team members to embrace AIM’s mission and support individuals in realizing their goals and potential. Other Functions Committee membership as requested. Assist and support eVero needs. Any and all other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, High School Diploma/ GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in the field of Intellectual and Developmental disabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License acceptable to Agency Insurance standards preferred. Maintain valid insurance and provide insurance card if you use your own vehicle.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD Regulations.
  • Willingness to maintain a 40 hour/week flexible schedule
  • Ability to communicate in a way that “draws an audience”; creates dynamics in communication methods and situations that encourage positive change and has the strength to challenge the “status quo”.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task. Detail oriented.
  • Well-developed team skills, unquestioned integrity, and the experience, confidence and presence to effectively handle interpersonal relationships and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to exhibit/maintain a professional, kind, courteous and patient manner at all times.
  • Sitting and/or computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling as needed in the workplace.
  • Lifting - minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated interest/ability to facilitate the personal outcomes of Individuals’ receiving services.
  • Knowledge and professional skills to meet the changing needs of individuals served, the Agency, and workforce.

Nice To Haves

  • One year managerial/supervisory experience is preferred.
