Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) advocates with and for Marylanders experiencing poverty to achieve equity and social justice through free civil legal services, community collaboration, and systemic change. Job Summary: MLA is dedicated to ensuring a safe and secure environment for our employees and clients across our multiple office locations. We are seeking a diligent and proactive Security Operations Manager to join the Administrative Services Unit (ASU) team and contribute to our mission of maintaining a safe and secure workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Security Monitoring and Patrol (Baltimore City):
  • Monitor the Baltimore City lobby and ensure that the environment remains safe, secure, structured and peaceful for clients, visitors and staff, by administering MLA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all clients and visitors are made aware of key policies that are posted at the security desk, upon entry to the Baltimore City office.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the Baltimore City office premises to monitor and ensure the safety and security of all assets, staff, clients and visitors.
  • Utilize and monitor security systems, including CCTV, alarms, and access control systems, to detect and respond to unusual activity, potential threats or incidents.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility to deter potential security threats.
  • Wear a company-issued uniform to present a professional and secure environment.
  • Office Risk Assessments (MLA Offices):
  • Distribute and review Risk Assessments to the various MLA offices to identify security vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure that each MLA office has the MLA adopted functional baseline security system installed.
  • In conjunction with MLA Office Managers, ensure that all baseline security systems for each MLA office are tested quarterly.
  • Incident Response and Reporting (Baltimore City):
  • Respond promptly and effectively to Baltimore City security breaches, alarms, or emergencies.
  • Depending on the type of incident, be prepared to call, in a timely manner, the appropriate Emergency Response units (e.g. Police Department, Fire Department, Medical Services, etc.) and effectively interface with Emergency Responders upon arrival.
  • Administer de-escalation techniques to manage and diffuse potentially volatile situations effectively.
  • Prepare detailed written incident reports following any security incident, ensuring all relevant facts, actions taken, and outcomes are documented accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare weekly observation reports that focus on potential health or safety issues.
  • Access Control (Baltimore City):
  • Manage and oversee access control systems to ensure only authorized personnel have entry to specific areas.
  • Verify identification and credentials of employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Collaboration and Communication (MLA Offices):
  • Work closely with Office Managers and other staff to address security concerns, implement security measures, and use standard Health & Safety forms (e.g. Incident Reports) and safety devices (e.g. AED machines, etc).
  • Coordinate Disaster Recovery Accountability testing for all MLA Offices.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with local law enforcement and emergency services.
  • In partnership with MLA s Training Department, coordinate security awareness training for employees to promote a culture of safety and security.
  • Training and Awareness (Baltimore City):
  • Participate in training for the following Hazardous Scenarios and Basic Training: Hazardous Scenarios
  • Fire Response
  • Workplace Violence/Active Shooter
  • Severe Weather Response
  • Basic Training
  • Fire Extinguisher Use
  • Evacuation & Shelter-In-Place
  • Baseline Medical Emergencies
  • Adult First Aid/CPR/AED - Red Cross
  • CPR/AED Online - Hearsaver
  • Stay current on the latest security trends and technologies to enhance security measures.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Baltimore City building and location of all Health & Safety devices, including First Aid supplies, Smoke Detectors, Pull Stations, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Exits , and AED machines.
  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity (Baltimore City/MLA Offices):
  • Contribute to, and maintain familiarity with, the MLA s Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Plan.
  • Contribute to, and maintain familiarity with, the Baltimore City Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Health & Safety Committee (MLA Offices):
  • Participate in organization-wide Health & Safety Committee meetings.
  • Provide data and insights to the Health & Safety Committee to substantiate draft policies or procedures.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $61,000-$71,000.
