About The Position

Protects, serves and assists the patients, staff and guests of FRHS.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required. Prior military, law enforcement or security experience preferred.
  • Must hold or obtain International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire. Ohio Peace Officers Training Association certification may substitute for this requirement but Firelands cannot hold that certificate.
  • Must have BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 5 years.
  • Must have CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
  • Must have non-violent crisis intervention training upon hire or obtained within six months of hire with re-certification every 2 years.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable under Firelands' auto policy. Must be able to safely drive during day time and night time hours without restriction. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
  • Maintain certification in handcuffing, defensive tactics, Turtle Shield and use of the Reflex Protect defensive device as appropriate.
  • Must have a mobile phone.

Responsibilities

  • Protects, serves and assists the patients, staff and guests of FRHS.
  • Responds to designated emergency codes.
  • Uses communication skills to verbally engage with and/or deescalate people who are in distress including behavioral and psychiatric emergencies.
  • Subdues/restrains individuals when needed. Must be able to operate available tools such as restraints, sprays, shields, handcuffs, etc.
  • Monitors one or more individuals at a time for any unsafe actions or behaviors. Must possess acute hearing and vision and be able to detect and react quickly to movement.
  • Monitors medical center buildings and grounds to maintain a safe and secure environment and takes appropriate action to resolve problems.
  • Handles dangerous ordinances (e.g. firearms, narcotics) when needed.
  • With appropriate personal protective equipment may be in contact with blood, body fluids and deceased persons.
  • Investigates incidents, accidents or complaints on medical center property.
  • Facilitates the safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.
