Our Security Officers carry out the day-to-day responsibilities of patrolling our campuses supporting campus partners in creating a safe environment, responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls, and protecting University community members and guests. The shift for this job position is Monday – Friday 12:00AM – 08:00AM , with Saturday and Sunday as regular days off.

  • Campus Patrol and Enforcement – 40%
  • Proactively patrol University campuses, both on foot and in a vehicle.
  • Enforce University policies as necessary.
  • Respond to and appropriately handle both emergency and non-emergency calls or incidents, including medical emergencies, fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents, and community assistance (escorts, vehicle assists, lockouts).
  • Incident Response and Reporting – 25%
  • Conduct security interviews on persons displaying suspicious behavior.
  • Request assistance from law enforcement, fire department, EMS, and other agencies as necessary.
  • Respond to and appropriately handle suspicious behavior, unattended items, and vehicles.
  • Utilize quick decision-making skills and sound judgment in accordance with Bethel University policies and State statutes.
  • Ensure proper radio traffic, keeping dispatchers and supervisors informed of all pertinent incidents and activities.
  • Write detailed and accurate electronic reports as required.
  • Safety and Traffic Management – 10%
  • Conduct periodic safety/fire inspections as assigned.
  • Issue parking violation tickets and conduct traffic direction.
  • Set up and tear down signs, cones, barricades, etc., for campus events.
  • Work toward ensuring the overall safety of the Bethel University community.
  • Community Engagement and Assistance – 10%
  • Provide quality service to campus guests and community members at all times.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors with safety concerns and general inquiries.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Compliance – 15%
  • Maintain readiness to respond to emergencies effectively.
  • Stay updated on university policies and procedures, as well as relevant state statutes.
  • Independent thinking with strong observation skills and ability to multitask.
  • Prior experience of working as part of a team.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • Required to work weekends and some holidays.
  • Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively (i.e. timely and effective response to emergency situations.)
  • Ability to successfully complete a rigorous 40-hour behavior detection class (SIRA®).
  • Ability to successfully complete use of force and defensive tactics training.
  • Ability to complete basic first aid/CPR training.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Requires completion of a high school degree or equivalent.
