About The Position

White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 22,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats. White Oak Mission: Saving endangered wildlife and habitats through sustainable populations, expanding education initiatives, and responsible land stewardship. Job Summary: The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of White Oak’s guests, staff, collection, and property.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year of security, law enforcement, or military experience.
  • Minimum of one year of hospitality or customer/guest service experience.
  • Report writing experience.
  • Current First Responder and/or CPR & AED Certifications.
  • Proficient computer software skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent hospitality skills, including guest and employee relations.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, reliable, and have a good moral character.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow directions, both written and verbal.
  • Must always remain alert while on duty.
  • Capable of making sound judgments.
  • Ability to remain calm in an emergency/crisis and carry out needed procedures.
  • Ability to maintain control over your own emotions.
  • Confident in own abilities to perform the duties required.

  • Shifts are twelve hours in length.

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular safety checks on AEDs and fire extinguishers, ensuring all equipment meets operational standards and compliance requirements.
  • Controls access into White Oak property by ensuring that all persons are authorized to enter.
  • Monitors and accompanies external personnel, including contractors, vendors, and visitors while on-site to prevent unauthorized access and ensure adherence to facility guidelines.
  • Retrieves and delivers incoming and outgoing mail and packages across designated areas in a timely and secure manner. Ensures company mail is secured daily, and any perishable items are delivered promptly.
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures and reports all violations to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintains awareness of daily activities on property including special projects, meetings, Wildlife activities, construction activities, special deliveries, events and Support Services dept work.
  • Utilizes the White Oak calendar and other updates through email and any other forms of communications to track guest arrival/departure information.
  • Makes prompt notifications to White Oak personnel when visitors, vendors and contractors arrive.
  • Follows VIP/owner operating procedures and carries out responsibilities accordingly.
  • Escorts vehicles throughout the property when necessary or requested to ensure road safety and arrival to desired destinations.
  • Accounts for property keys at the beginning and conclusion of each shift.
  • Documents accurate and detailed information via computer on department documents and logs, including employee entry/exit, security department radio logs, and visitor logs.
  • Maintains knowledge of property geography in order to provide accurate directions, respond to incidents, provide escorts and carry out emergency response procedures.
  • Maintains cleanliness standards in security buildings and vehicles.
  • Works when property is closed for emergencies or circumstances when it is not possible to conduct business (example, severe storm damage), as required.
  • Assists in conducting emergency drills.
  • Conducts safety inspections at the direction of the Head of Security and/or Safety/Medical Lead Officer.
  • Assists in inspecting medical and fire safety equipment and systems at the direction of the Head of Security and/or Safety/Medical Lead Officer.
  • Provides quick and appropriate communications (dispatching) by radio and phone during emergency situations and coordinate necessary solutions. This may include contacting external emergency entities such as law enforcement, EMS and Fire/Rescue services.
  • Attends required internal training courses as directed.
  • Provides transportation of guests to/from the airport or throughout White Oak property. Performs security patrols throughout the property; makes security checks of lodges and other facilities and provides status/action reports.
  • Investigates unusual activities and incidents and creates formal reports as necessary.
  • Monitors alarm, camera and gate access systems.
  • Informs outside emergency agencies of any unusual or suspicious situations on property.
  • Generates written reports regarding security-related incidents involving guests, employees and/or the facility.
  • Maintains communications with the rover and monitors the base station radio, while on gate duty.
  • Provides access control, monitors alarm systems, and provide coordination for emergency response/casualty control.
  • Monitors CCTV of back gate and operates gate remotely, as required.
  • Monitors email, guest relations calendar, arrival/departure schedules, and utilizes internet to maintain updated information, as needed.
  • Inspects jump bags to ensure equipment has batteries and is in working order.
  • Monitors weather and traffic conditions and communicates severe warnings to all personnel.
  • Ensures safe and engaging experience for White Oak guests.
  • Performs other duties that are not specifically identified above, but are required to provide a safe, clean, healthy, and enjoyable environment for guests.
