About The Position

This position is part of an organized hospital-wide program dedicated to promoting the personal safety of employees, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors, and others conducting business within the hospital. The Security Officer is responsible for protecting, preventing, observing, and reporting any situations concerning the hospital, and taking appropriate action when necessary. The Security Officer I role is an entry-level position designed to provide experience for individuals interested in healthcare, law enforcement, or social work.

Requirements

• California State Consumer Affairs Guard Card (obtained before completion of the probationary period for Security Officer I, current for Security Officer II)
• Current CPR recognition (American Heart Association-Health Care Provider or American Red Cross – Professional Rescuer) (within 90 days of hire for Security Officer I, current for Security Officer II)
• Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time
• Ability to follow instructions and policy and procedures
• Ability to produce concise, accurate, and well-written reports
• Strong public relations skills
• Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner
• Ability to fulfill the essential functions of the position
• Valid California Driver’s License (required for Security Officer II)
• Eligible to be insured under the Medical Center’s Liability Policy with DMV Report (and minimum age 21, required for Security Officer II)

Nice To Haves

• Previous security experience (desired for Security Officer I)
• College level courses in law enforcement, security, or a related field, or completion of basic law enforcement training (desired for Security Officer I)
• Hospital experience
• Previous customer service experience

Responsibilities

• Promote the personal safety of employees, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors, and others having business in the hospital
• Protect the hospital premises and its occupants
• Prevent security incidents
• Observe situations concerning the hospital
• Report any situations concerning the hospital
• Take appropriate action when necessary
