This role provides a reasonably safe and secure environment for staff, patients, and premises by offering security services and acting as a first responder to urgent facility matters. The Security Officer also serves as a role model and guide to junior officers. Key responsibilities include protecting property and staff through interior and exterior rounds, observing for safety and security issues, theft, and monitoring parking lots. The officer promotes visitor and employee safety by conducting door checks, detecting lighting deficiencies, confirming proper elevator operation, assisting with disruptive individuals, patient restraints, and providing escorts. The role involves responding to requests for assistance, escorting emergency personnel, and providing post-mortem services. Professional customer service is essential when dealing with complex situations, proactively identifying safety and security hazards, and communicating with clinical staff. The officer observes and reports security concerns, completes incident reports and shift logs, and provides maintenance assistance related to property conservation and campus safety, such as alarm testing, checking life safety equipment (AEDs, oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers), access control, and badging. Additional duties include creating and issuing ID badges, investigating incidents using video management systems, and conducting regular fire, elopement, infant abduction, and panic alarm testing. The position may also involve field training and operating a motor vehicle for patrol, requiring a constant state of alertness and safe conduct.
