About The Position

This is a full-time 1st shift position working 12 hour shifts. Under general direction, Security Officers are responsible for monitoring all areas of the hospital in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.  Security Officers are on campus 24/7 and act as a visible deterrent to crime and policy infractions, as well as detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts, which may be a threat to the property, staff, visitors or patients. Occasionally interacts with psychiatric/violent patients. The position reports to the Manager of Security Services.

Requirements

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED. Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • Up to 5 Years of verifiable experience, with 3 years in law enforcement, security, customer service or related field.
  • Have intermediate computer skills, report writing and event logging using software (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and efficiently
  • Emergency Preparedness and Life Safety within one year.
  • Certification in de-escalation/violence prevention training is required within six (6) months of employment.  AVADE Level 1
  • AVADE Level Two certification is required within one (1) year of employment.
  • AVADE Level Three certification is required within a designated timeframe after hire and upon successful completion of Levels One and Two.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring all areas of the hospital
  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees
  • Act as a visible deterrent to crime and policy infractions
  • Detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts
  • Assist in lifting patients as needed to either assist nursing staff or help transport expired patients
  • Restrain violent/combative patients to prevent injuries to themselves, others and yourself.
  • All other duties as assigned
