About The Position

Security Officers at the New Museum play a critical role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all. Security Officers are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the museum’s visitors, staff, exhibits, and property. This role involves patrolling galleries and non-public areas, responding to emergencies and reporting incidents, and providing excellent customer service to museum visitors. Security Officers must always maintain a welcoming and alert demeanor while on duty. This position requires a balance of vigilance and hospitality, ensuring the protection of the museum’s exhibitions and spaces.

Requirements

Valid New York State Security Guard license.
Valid F03 and S95 FDNY license.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to remain composed in high-pressure situations.
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, and climb stairs for extended periods.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in security, customer service, or a public-facing role preferred.

Responsibilities

Patrol assigned area to ensure the safety of people, artwork and property.
Monitor CCTV, fire alarm panels, and access control systems when assigned to the Security Console.
Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, emergencies, and alarms.
Enforce museum policies while maintaining a visitor-friendly approach.
Provide clear and courteous assistance to guests, including directions and information about exhibitions.
Observe and report any suspicious activity, safety concerns, or maintenance issues.
Complete detailed and accurate incident reports.
Perform crowd management during public programs, openings, and special events.
Collaborate with the Visitor Experience team and other departments to enhance the overall visitor experience.
Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
Participate in regular safety drills and training sessions to ensure preparedness and compliance with safety protocols.
