As an unarmed Patrol Officer at a higher-education location, you will monitor and patrol buildings and grounds, maintain a visible presence that helps to deter security-related incidents, and support students, faculty, staff, and visitors with clear communication and customer service. You will conduct routine rounds, help manage access points as needed, and document activity while working with a team that is agile, reliable, innovative, and driven by integrity and a caring culture.

Requirements

  • Have 2+ years’ law enforcement, military police, and/or corrections experience.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Access control and/or badge experience is preferred.
  • A guard card and/or license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors by carrying out site-specific procedures, access control guidelines, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, coordinating with on-site leadership and local emergency services as needed.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of academic buildings, common areas, parking areas, and perimeter routes to help to deter unwanted activity and identify maintenance and security-related concerns.
  • Monitor entrances, corridors, and other assigned areas for unusual activity, policy violations, and/or hazards, reporting observations through the designated reporting process.
  • Control access where assigned by checking identification, issuing visitor directions, and following sign-in procedures consistent with location policies.
  • Provide courteous assistance with directions, escorts upon request when available, and general information to support a positive campus experience.
  • Complete detailed incident reports, shift logs, and patrol documentation, including observations of policy concerns and security-related issues.
  • Operate radios, phones, and/or other communication equipment to receive assignments, relay information, and request additional resources when needed.
  • Support campus events and special activities by managing foot traffic, assisting with queue control, and coordinating with event staff on security-related procedures.
  • Observe and report suspicious behavior, unsecured doors, lighting outages, and/or other conditions that may contribute to security-related concerns, following escalation protocols.
  • Participate in drills, briefings, and required training to stay current on post orders, emergency procedures, and location expectations.
  • Work in environments and conditions that may vary by assignment, including indoor and outdoor posts, day and/or night shifts, and walking/standing for extended periods.
