About The Position

Our NEW Pediatric Behavioral Health Center is scheduled to open in December 2026. Candidates applying for this position should expect a start date after September 1, 2026. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and provide two professional references as part of the hiring process. The Security Officer III provides guidance and support to Security Officers during their assigned shift. While performing the full scope of Security Officer II responsibilities, the Security Officer III serves as the primary point of contact for real-time coordination, mentoring, and quality control of security services. This role ensures adherence to OU Health security policies while promoting a safe, responsive, and well-documented work environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least 5 years of experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must be a State of Oklahoma issued driver’s license within 30 days of Oklahoma residency.
  • Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety required within 6 months of hire.
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior certification required within 45 days of hire.
  • Ability to lead people.
  • Understanding of how to implement and follow established security procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws related to security, such as those concerning use of force, trespassing and emergency procedures.
  • Familiarity with surveillance systems, alarm systems, access control systems and other relevant technologies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carefully observe surroundings, identify potential threats and notice suspicious activity.
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations, negotiate peacefully and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Ability to assess situations, make quick decisions and take appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • Strong customer service skills when addressing inquiries and assisting individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of Security Officers to ensure consistent coverage, response, and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide mentorship to entry-level and mid-level officers; support development through real-time feedback and scenario-based guidance.
  • Review and approve incident and activity reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
  • Respond to escalated security incidents, including disturbances, alarms, and law enforcement engagements, and guide response teams as needed.
  • Serve as the primary liaison during joint activity with law enforcement or fire department personnel; ensure hospital policy is upheld throughout interactions.
  • Conduct post-incident briefings and recommend training or corrective action based on event outcomes.
  • Oversee coordination of officer coverage during breaks, shift transitions, and high-priority zones.
  • Monitor compliance with hospital security policies and report operational challenges or trends to Security Leadership.
  • Maintain high-quality records of team activity, decisions, and safety incidents using standardized documentation practices.
  • Support onboarding and training of new staff, including shadowing, report writing, and operational walkthroughs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
