About The Position

Our NEW Pediatric Behavioral Health Center is scheduled to open in December 2026. Candidates applying for this position should expect a start date after September 1, 2026. All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and provide two professional references as part of the hiring process. The Security Officer I provides a safe and secure environment for patients, family members, employees and guests by enforcing the security policies and procedures of OU Health.

Requirements

  • All applicants must be 21 years of age or older and provide two professional references as part of the hiring process.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • No experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must be a State of Oklahoma issued driver’s license within 30 days of Oklahoma residency.
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety required within 6 months of hire.
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior certification required within 45 days of hire.
  • Understanding of how to implement and follow established security procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws related to security, such as those concerning use of force, trespassing and emergency procedures.
  • Familiarity with surveillance systems, alarm systems, access control systems and other relevant technologies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carefully observe surroundings, identify potential threats and notice suspicious activity.
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations, negotiate peacefully and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Ability to assess situations, make quick decisions and take appropriate action in emergency situations.
  • Strong customer service skills when addressing inquiries and assisting individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated areas as assigned.
  • Write parking tickets for illegally parked vehicles.
  • Investigate complaints, disturbances and thefts by completing a concise and factual report in accordance with policies and procedures; may escalate significant incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Operate two-way communication system to send and receive messages following appropriate radio protocol.
  • Record shift activities in designated logs or forms as directed.
  • Receive direction and mentorship from senior security officers to ensure compliance with OU Health security policies.
  • Assist law enforcement personnel to various hospital areas to monitor compliance with OU Health policy.
  • Provide outside law enforcement personnel with information and assistance with investigations occurring in the hospital by following established protocols.
  • Assist Fire Department with calls to OU Health facilities; respond to alarms at OU Health facilities and reports any irregularities or safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist in restraining individuals who are disruptive or in violation of the law in the OU Health Facilities, parking garages, lots and/or grounds while on duty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
