Atlantic Health System is seeking a Security Officer for the Security Department at Morristown Medical Center. Morristown Medical Center specifically is a nationally-recognized leader in cardiology and heart surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, geriatrics, gastroenterology and GI surgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, and urology. It is a Magnet Hospital for Excellence in Nursing Service and a Level I Regional Trauma Center. The AHS Protection and Security Services (PSS) team provides 24/7 security coverage at medical centers (CMC, HMC, MMC, NMC, OMC, and Union ED) and is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patients, team members, and visitors. Uniformed PSS officers are assigned posts and routinely patrol facilities and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry. They visually examine doors, windows, and gates for security. Each PSS team member is highly trained to maintain a calming atmosphere while also being able to deescalate high-emotion situations. Officers are specially trained in response control tactics and techniques and respond to workplace violence and fire safety occurrences. The PSS team leads first response to significant events such as Code Lockdown & Active Shooter, Abducted Child, Building Evacuation, and Bomb Threats. They control card access privileges, confront unauthorized persons, and contact local law enforcement when necessary. Additionally, PSS has an Investigations Office for follow-up investigations (e.g., Suspicion of Drug Diversion, Allegations of Assault, Domestic Violence, Workplace Violence) and an Emergency Management Office for oversight, coordination, and implementation of system-wide emergency management standards.

Requirements

  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Able to stand for at least 4 hours at a time
  • Able to attend mandatory training sessions
  • Proficiency with computers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with the department's computer system
  • Able to pass an N95 Fit Test
  • Able to wear an N95 or surgical mask for short and extended periods of time
  • Able to pass an AHS approved physical control tactics course

Responsibilities

  • Work first, second, and third shifts, weekends, Holidays, and overtime as required
  • Be available for call back and re-call as required
  • Flex schedule to accommodate organizational staffing needs, including shifts of varying durations (8 or 12 hours)
  • Engage with patients, visitors, and staff
  • Conduct safety tours of the facility and grounds
  • Respond to emergencies
  • Conduct investigations and gather information
  • Complete electronic reports
  • De-escalate violent or threatening individuals
  • Routinely patrol facilities and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized entry
  • Visually examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure they remain intact and secure
  • Maintain an atmosphere that is calming to patients and welcoming to their families
  • Respond to occurrences of workplace violence and fire safety
  • Lead first response to significant events such as Code Lockdown & Active Shooter, Abducted Child, Building Evacuation, and Bomb Threats
  • Control card access privileges at medical centers
  • Confront all unauthorized persons and, when necessary, contact local law enforcement for assistance
