About The Position

Receives calls for emergency and non-emergency security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and dispatches necessary units. Performs a variety of general support duties related to the operation of the security communications center. Responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communications with the security department patrol officers and outside emergency responders, law enforcement officers, and the general public. Monitors the organization’s security cameras and fire alarm panels on property, reports discrepancies and dispatches appropriate units. Logs and maintains all service calls, patrol officer assignments, and dispositions via a computerized security management system. Responsible for making telephone notifications and performing computer data queries for patrol officers and authorized Operations Support staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 6 months of work experience in a public contact position providing information and/or a service, or in a position where the primary responsibility is interacting with people.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrate clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to hear alarms and other auditory warning devices.
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 25 words per minute.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of standard office equipment (computer, copier, fax machine) and computer programs, i.e. Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Security experience in a K-12 school environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year work experience in security, police or emergency related work environment.
  • Associate of Arts degree in a security, law enforcement, emergency management, or closely related field.
  • Good interpersonal skills to effectively relate with staff, parents, students and the general public.
  • Safety training in OSHA rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and processes emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Determines the nature and locations of emergencies; prioritizes incidents and dispatches units as needed in accordance with established procedures.
  • Gathers, organizes, and documents information into a computer system.
  • Monitors the organization's camera system and fire alarm panels.
  • Interacts with outside agencies and the general public as appropriate.
  • Performs a variety of general clerical duties, such as filing, indexing, and record keeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.
