About The Position

The Security and Shelter Access Coordinator plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment at Bethany House Services. This position serves as the primary point of contact for residents, staff, visitors, donors, volunteers, and community partners while monitoring access to the facility and supporting shelter operations. This role blends front desk reception, safety awareness, and calm leadership. The Security and Shelter Access Coordinator provides a visible presence that helps deter unsafe or inappropriate behavior, supports de-escalation, and ensures that security protocols are followed. This position works closely with Shelter staff and management and serves as an extension of the Shelter team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to balance hospitality and safety
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and strong situational awareness
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations
  • Ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds with professionalism and respect
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict in a calm and controlled manner
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office, access control systems, and security monitoring tools
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions from supervisors
  • Ability to coordinate with staff, administrators, law enforcement, and other partners
  • Ability to prepare written and electronic reports as required
  • Reliable and regular attendance
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet Bethany House Services vehicle insurance requirements
  • Successful completion of criminal background checks, employment verification, and drug screening
  • Ability to stand and remain on feet for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and frequently
  • Ability to kneel, walk, bend, reach, grasp, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements
  • Regular use of computer monitors and security equipment
  • Ability to hear clearly, with or without correction, to communicate and record information
  • Vision sufficient, with or without correction, to read screens, complete forms, and monitor security cameras
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year degree preferred
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable populations preferred
  • Previous security, reception, or customer-facing experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Visitor Management Greet visitors, clients, volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners in a professional and courteous manner
  • Verify identification, log visitor information, and issue visitor badges
  • Provide clear directions and assistance while maintaining security procedures
  • Access Control and Campus Safety Monitor entry points to ensure authorized access only
  • Check for contraband and deny entry to unauthorized individuals as needed
  • Monitor lobby, shelter, and surrounding campus activity for safety concerns
  • Prevent unauthorized loitering and manage access to campus grounds
  • Monitor on-campus vehicle traffic and parking areas for safety and security
  • Security Monitoring and Emergency Response Monitor CCTV systems and report unusual or suspicious activity
  • Respond to fire alarms, security alerts, and emergency situations according to established procedures
  • Contact emergency services and coordinate with Shelter leadership or law enforcement when necessary
  • Administrative and Front Desk Support Answer incoming phone calls and route messages appropriately
  • Maintain accurate visitor logs, incident reports, and security documentation
  • Complete basic administrative tasks as assigned through the Human Resources Department
  • Assist with donation intake and ensure proper documentation and handling
  • Communication and Collaboration Collaborate closely with Shelter staff and management to support daily operations
  • De-escalate emotional or high-stress situations using calm, respectful communication
  • Document and report security incidents, concerns, or safety issues clearly and accurately
