About The Position

Power Technical (PTEC) is a tuition-free public charter school within James Irwin Charter Schools, serving students in grades 6–12. PTEC provides a unique blend of rigorous academics and hands-on career and technical education (CTE) in areas such as construction, welding, and engineering. We are committed to developing both the mind and character of our students through structured, high-expectation instruction and a strong school culture. PTEC is seeking a full-time Physical Education / Character Teacher for the upcoming school year. This position plays a vital role in promoting student health, fitness, teamwork, and character development. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging PE instruction while also reinforcing character education through structured lessons and daily interactions. All instruction at PTEC follows the Direct Instruction / Explicit Instruction model, ensuring clarity, consistency, and high student engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to meet Colorado Department of Education in-field requirements (degree, coursework, or Praxis exam)
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to work with middle and high school students
  • Passion for physical fitness, student development, and character education
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Willingness to be coached and implement feedback

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching Physical Education or coaching
  • Familiarity with Direct Instruction / Explicit Instruction
  • Experience working with adolescents in a school or athletic setting

Responsibilities

  • Teach Physical Education to students in grades 6–12
  • Teach and reinforce character education aligned with school values
  • Implement Direct Instruction (Explicit Instruction) strategies in all lessons
  • Develop and deliver structured, engaging lesson plans
  • Promote physical fitness, teamwork, and positive sportsmanship
  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment
  • Monitor and assess student progress and participation
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate with parents as needed
  • Enforce school expectations including behavior and dress code
  • Collaborate with staff to support student success and school culture
  • Participate in school duties such as study hall monitoring, events, and occasional after-school activities
