About The Position

Silver Lake Jr/Sr High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator to serve in a Secondary Math (9-12) / At-Risk / Financial Literacy role. This position is designed to support a diverse group of learners through a combination of math instruction, financial literacy, and targeted at-risk interventions. The ideal candidate will be committed to building strong relationships, supporting student growth, and helping students develop both academic and life-ready skills. This position involves teaching a variety of courses grades 7-12th grade that integrate math, financial literacy, and social studies concepts while emphasizing real-world application and student skill development. The role includes supporting at-risk students through targeted academic and organizational interventions, as well as collaborating with Professional Learning Teams to align curriculum and improve student outcomes. Instruction is designed to engage students, build critical thinking skills, and connect learning to practical, real-life experiences. Course descriptions include Integrated Math (combines foundational concepts from Algebra, Geometry, Functions, and Statistics), JH/HS Skills Lab (provides targeted support for students needing academic intervention, skill development, and structured time for completing coursework), JH Sports History (the history and evolution of 4 major sports), Math Essentials (integrates math concepts with career and technical applications, using technology and real-world problem solving), and Financial Literacy (focuses on practical financial decision-making, including income, budgeting, saving, investing, credit, and risk management).

Requirements

  • Valid Kansas teaching license (or ability to obtain)
  • Endorsement in Math or related field preferred
  • Experience working with at-risk students is highly desirable
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills
