About The Position

For the 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking a faithful, joyful, and organized part-time Second Grade Teacher to teach the first half of the school day. This teacher will provide instruction in English, Literature, Science, and Math during the morning block. Students will transition to specialty and departmental teachers for the second half of the day. The ideal candidate loves working with young children, values structure and order, and embraces the mission of Classical Catholic education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience teaching early elementary students preferred.
  • Knowledge of phonics-based instruction and foundational math development strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn the Singapore math curriculum.
  • A deep love for young children and early learning.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication with parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to create a calm, orderly, and joy-filled learning environment.
  • A practicing Christian committed to living in harmony with Church teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teach grammar, composition, spelling, and handwriting using structured, time-tested methods.
  • Provide explicit phonics reinforcement and reading fluency support as needed.
  • Lead rich read-alouds and guide students in narration and discussion of quality literature.
  • Build foundational writing skills through copy work, dictation, and guided composition.
  • Teach foundational math skills in alignment with the school’s curriculum.
  • Emphasize mastery, mental math fluency, and clear problem-solving processes.
  • Reinforce attentiveness, precision, and orderly thinking in mathematical work.
  • Foster wonder and curiosity through age-appropriate science instruction.
  • Encourage observation, classification, and exploration of God’s creation.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities and nature study where appropriate.
  • Establish a peaceful, joyful, and structured classroom environment.
  • Model and teach virtues such as obedience, charity, diligence, and reverence.
  • Integrate daily prayer and Catholic devotion into the rhythm of the morning.
  • Prepare students for a smooth and orderly transition to afternoon teachers.
  • Monitor student progress through written work, oral narration, quizzes, and observation.
  • Maintain accurate academic records.
  • Communicate regularly and constructively with parents.
  • Collaborate with afternoon teachers to ensure consistency in expectations and student support.
  • Attend faculty meetings, school Masses, and liturgical celebrations.
  • Work closely with Grammar School colleagues for curricular continuity.
  • Pursue ongoing formation in classical pedagogy and Catholic education.
