About The Position

2026 Camp Season is May 24 through July 26. Bring your passion for Camp and Outdoors to Girl Scouts and beautiful Camp Tallchief! Seasonal camp staff are onsite at Camp Tallchief from Sunday afternoons through Friday late afternoons and released to go home Friday evening through Sunday afternoons. Help us make great memories for girls of all ages! Job Summary Seasonal Unit Counselors will aid in supervising and effectively leading a group of campers in daily camp activities. Unit Counselors will provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers. Unit Counselors will be actively involved and have a positive attitude about all camp activities and will ensure a fun and educational camping experience for all campers. Resident Camp employment is seasonal, with dates of employment approximately May – August.

Requirements

  • Must have current GSUSA membership and be at least 18 years old.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications or the willingness and ability to obtain.
  • Ability to model behavior consistent with the Girl Scout Mission, Promise, and Law.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Patience to deal with 5 or more people at the same time.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment weighing approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to endure occasional exposure to sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
  • Physically able to move about the camp property in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to speak distinctly to communicate with members and staff on the phone or in person.
  • Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and one’s peers.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to teach and/or assist in teaching skills and activities.
  • Act as a team player with the desire to do whatever is necessary to make the total camp program successful.
  • Ability to live in an assigned area with a group of campers and staff for the duration of the camp season.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures for supervising camper health and enforcing all safety regulations.
  • Assume responsibility for health and safety of campers and staff.
  • Maintain positive relations with families, visitors, and the public at all times.
  • Follow all camp rules and regulations and enforce them among peers.
  • Actively participate in staff training and meetings.
  • Work cooperatively with unit, program, and administrative staff to provide an enjoyable environment for all campers.
  • Provide opportunities so that each camper will have a positive camping experience.
  • Participate and instruct campers in emergency procedures.
  • Assist each camper with meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for camper and staff development.
  • Respond to and provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns.
  • Guide activities and experiences through use of girl planning and Girl Scout Program.
  • Supervise all aspects of the camper’s day including wake-up, cabin/unit kapers, meals, rest periods, evening activities, bedtime, cookouts, and after-hours duties as assigned.
  • Be an integral part of the unit activities and get to know campers and staff on an individual basis.
  • Be knowledgeable about the eating habits, diets, and general health of campers and staff.
  • Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person.
  • Inform the Resident Camp Director of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns.
  • Ensure unit, cabins, dining hall, and kaper areas are kept clean.
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.
