About The Position

As a Seasonal Summer Camp Counselor, you will create a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience for campers by overseeing activities, fostering positive relationships, and promoting personal development in a supportive and inclusive environment. The counselor plays a key role in implementing engaging programs, ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

Requirements

  • High school diploma not required, must be at least 18 years of age
  • Position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position
  • Equivalent work experience or relevant certifications working with children may be considered. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Able to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pullin,g and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking
  • May require standing for extended periods

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant supervision and guidance to campers, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout various camp activities.
  • Plan and organize engaging and age-appropriate activities, games, and events that align with the camp's objectives and cater to the interests of the campers.
  • Lead educational and recreational sessions, fostering a positive and inclusive environment while imparting valuable skills and knowledge to campers.
  • Address and resolve conflicts among campers, promoting positive communication and cooperation to maintain a harmonious camp atmosphere.
  • Enforce safety protocols and emergency procedures, conducting regular safety checks to create a secure environment for all camp participants.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow camp counselors and staff to coordinate schedules, share responsibilities, and ensure a cohesive and supportive team dynamic.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians, providing updates on camp activities, addressing concerns, and sharing achievements and challenges.
  • Demonstrate positive behavior, ethical conduct, and a strong work ethic, serving as a role model for campers and promoting a positive camp culture.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership.
