About The Position

A seasonal Research Assistant is needed to assist the University of New Hampshire Cucurbit Breeding Program (https://unhcucurbits.org/) with fruit harvest and processing. The program is based in Durham, NH. Training will be provided to perform all required tasks. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to work under different weather conditions such as extremes of temperature, humidity, and rain. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Part-time up to 40 hours per week available starting August or September 2024 through early December. Specific tasks may include: Weeding in field Training squash/pumpkin plants in field Harvesting fruit in field Cutting and processing fruit Cleaning seed Taking data such as fruit weight, flesh color, dry matter, and other such measurements using various apps and instruments.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work under different weather conditions such as extremes of temperature, humidity, and rain.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • A background/interest in horticulture/agriculture is desirable, but the position is open to all motivated candidates.
