The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conserving the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public. The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) serves Massachusetts’ citizens by protecting, restoring, and enhancing fishery resources and their habitats while providing sustainable fisheries-related recreational and commercial opportunities. The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Marine Fisheries seeks applicants for a Seasonal Public Access Site Attendant to perform the following duties:

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the local area and ability to give directions.
  • Knowledge of computer software applications including Microsoft Work and Excel.
  • Experience compiling data in tabular and graphic form.
  • Willingness to work under challenging field and weather conditions.
  • Ability to prepare documents and reports accurately.
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours (tidal cycles and weekends).
  • Ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Monitors public use of DMF’s Craven’s Landing Fishing Access Site (1 Holway Rd Sandwich, MA) on weekends and holidays during peak use periods to prevent illegal and inappropriate uses.
  • Greets all persons coming onto the site and distributes site rules, regulations, and other pertinent information.
  • General knowledge of natural resource management principals including familiarity with protected species, recreational fishing and boating, and control of outdoor public facilities.
  • Assures that only allowed and appropriate uses of the site take place.
  • Records site use data on appropriate forms and submits data and detail reports after assignments.
  • Job requires work on all summer weekends and holidays during the period from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to and from the site.
  • Performs other tasks related to the public access program as needed.
