About The Position

Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at the 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights. Job Summary: Children’s Museum Houston’s seasonal production involves a cast of 10-12 Performers and a crew of 4-5 Technicians ages 16-21 years old. Technicians are responsible for running sound, light and projections for the shows and may be asked to assist with sound or lighting design. The job includes 2-3 weeks of paid rehearsal time, followed by a 6-8 week run. Performances run 7 days a week with 2-4 shows scheduled per day. The show itself is 15-20 minutes and created for children and families visiting the Museum. Additionally, technicians are expected to set up and run sound in various locations around the Museum for short scenes used to advertise the production. All technicians are responsible for ensuring an entertaining and enjoyable experience for Museum guests and for representing the Museum professionally and positively. Seasonal Production Technicians are typically scheduled between 12-28 hours/week.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating sound and/or light boards for theater rehearsals and performances.
  • Excellent flexibility, teamwork and cooperation skills.
  • The ability to interact effectively with staff and guests.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sound and/or light design desired.
  • Educational and/or professional tech experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Attending all scheduled shifts (rehearsals and performances) unless a prior conflict has been approved.
  • Running technical elements for 2-3 shows plus additional scenes throughout the Museum during each scheduled workday; technical elements include but may not be limited to light, sound, and projections.
  • Maintaining all technical equipment and AV room, including proper setup and storage of equipment.
  • Working collaboratively and responsively with different Performers, Technicians and Coordinators.
  • Greeting and interacting with guests around the Museum.
