About The Position

Only previous Seasonal Play staff are eligible to apply for this position. Children’s Museum Houston’s seasonal production involves a cast of 10-12 Performers and a crew of 4-5 Technicians, ages 16-21 years old, performing 7 days a week with 2-4 shows scheduled per day. Seasonal Play Coordinators are for day-to-day supervision of Performers and Technicians before, during and after performances, and works directly with the Director and the Manager to report any issues or concerns including late arrivals/absences, illness or injury, audience reactions, issues with technical elements such as props or costumes, and any other matters affecting the quality of the performance and/or visitor experience. Seasonal Play Coordinators function as front-of-house managers, encouraging and welcoming Museum visitors into the auditorium, maintaining safety standards, and introducing the show before each performance. Additionally, Coordinators may be asked to train as Understudies for Performers and/or Technicians in case of an unexpected absence to ensure that daily performances occur as scheduled. All Coordinators are responsible for ensuring an entertaining and enjoyable experience for Museum guests and for representing the Museum professionally and positively. Seasonal Production Performers are typically scheduled between 18-28 hours/week.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent flexibility, teamwork and cooperation skills.
  • Comfortable presenting to children and families.
  • Confidence with enforcing policies and procedures with employees.
  • The ability to interact effectively with staff and guests.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Theater experience is required.
  • Must have worked on a previous Seasonal Play at Children’s Museum Houston to be eligible for this position.
  • Coordinators will need to walk up and down stairs to access the AV room and backstage areas. Candidates must be able to complete this requirement with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Management, supervisory, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Educational and/or professional theater experience desired.

Responsibilities

  • Attending all scheduled shifts (rehearsals and performances) unless a prior conflict has been approved.
  • Working collaboratively and responsively with the Seasonal Play Manager, Director, Technical Director, Performers, Technicians and other Coordinators as well as with Museum Gallery Management Team.
  • Maintaining the artistic integrity of the show throughout the run.
  • Ensuring professionalism and courtesy from all Performers and Technicians.
  • Greeting and interacting with Museum visitors and audience members.
  • Reporting any staff or visitor concerns to the Manager.
  • Maintaining quality and enforcing staff guidelines regarding design and technical equipment, including cleaning and proper storage.
  • May include understudying Performers and/or running tech cues during shows.
