Seasonal Land Steward People Architects is proud to partner with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to recruit a Seasonal Land Steward to support their Natural Areas Program (one of the most respected conservation efforts in Northeast Ohio). This isn’t just seasonal labor, it’s conservation in action. Your work directly supports the protection of ecosystems that define Northeast Ohio and contribute to global scientific understanding. About the Organization Founded in 1920 and located in University Circle, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History has spent more than a century connecting people to the wonders of science and nature. Today, the Museum stewards more than 12,500 acres of protected land across Northern Ohio, preserving critical habitats and biodiversity for generations to come. This role supports that mission directly out in the field, hands-on, and essential. About the role: As a Seasonal Land Steward , you’ll be part of the Museum’s Natural Areas team, working alongside experienced land managers to protect and restore native habitats across Northeast Ohio. You’ll be based out of Cleveland Museum of Natural History, with daily travel to conservation sites. This is a temporary, seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Curiosity and genuine passion for conservation, science, and the natural world
  • Familiarity with Northeast Ohio flora and fauna (or a strong desire to learn)
  • Interest in learning invasive species management techniques
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Exposure to insects, prickly or poisonous plants, and rugged terrain
  • Semi-remote locations with limited indoor facilities
  • Walking long distances, navigating uneven terrain, and performing physically demanding labor
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation

Responsibilities

  • Support invasive plant management and eradication using a variety of tools and techniques
  • Assist with maintaining and restoring native plant communities
  • Map invasive and rare plant populations using GPS and drone data
  • Collect field data and complete accurate data entry
  • Analyze GPS and aerial survey data and support GIS mapping efforts
  • Assist with plant identification using taxonomic field guides
  • Help coordinate onsite work with contractors, volunteers, and local partners
  • Pitch in on other stewardship and conservation projects as needed
