About The Position

Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a Seasonal Laborer - Gas & Water Operations. As a member of the Gas & Water Operations team at Cedar Falls Utilities, this individual will work in the field locating gas and water assets using a GPS unit in GIS technology. The hours for this position is 40 hours/week. The term for the position is expected to coincide with the typical summer break for college students. The Seasonal Laborer - Gas & Water Operations works under general supervision of the Gas & Water Planning Supervisor. Requirements

  • No education/prior work experience required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Iowa Driver's License and meet CFU insurability requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Operation Monitoring Skills: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine or equipment is working properly.
  • Active Listening Skills: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking Skills: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to: Work in extreme hot or cold environments as work performed is outdoors. Follow instructions both verbal and written and adhere to safety standards.
  • Work involves frequently carrying/lifting objects 40 lbs or less and occasionally items that are 50 lbs. This job requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, and working next to moving traffic on roadways. Occasional squatting, crouching, kneeling, bending, pushing, and pulling. Close proximity to moving machinery and equipment.
  • Pre-employment drug screen and physical is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs painting tasks by prepping the surface, applying appropriate primer or sealer if applicable and apply paint to fire hydrants.
  • Performs Geographical Information System (GIS) survey spotting.
  • Enters data into systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Reads work orders or receive instructions from supervisors to determine work requirements.
  • Cleans work areas, machines, and tools as well as holding materials or tools for other workers, painting, data entry and survey spotting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, coworkers, and management.
