About The Position

Join Greeley’s Water Efficiency Team and become a vital part of maintaining a Garden area while upholding our high standards for curb appeal and supporting water efficiency programs. As a cornerstone of our city's commitment to water efficiency, this role offers an opportunity to contribute to Greeley's ongoing efforts in reducing water usage through education, incentives, and innovative initiatives. The Water Efficiency seasonal positions involve diverse responsibilities, including the maintenance and management of a Garden area located at 2503 Reservoir Rd. and by 1001 11th Ave, Greeley, CO, as well as assisting with water efficiency programs. Primary garden duties encompass ensuring the garden remains in good condition throughout the growing season, and actively participating in hands-on tasks such as planting, weeding, trash removal, and executing special construction projects. Primary water program duties involve working directly with irrigation systems, identifying leaks, recording data measurements, collecting soil samples, and representing Greeley with professionalism and enthusiasm. Regardless of weather conditions, there will always be tasks to tackle, rain or shine. The typical schedule for this position is from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, five days a week, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend and evening shifts as required by State and Federal regulations. Requirements

  • Minimal to no previous experience required.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with two (2) years of driving experience and good driving record.
  • Ability to operate pickups, be trained to tow a small utility trailer.
  • Ability to operate machinery and hand garden tools such as power tools, trimmer, lawn-mover, blower and rakes, shovels, and pruners.
  • Ability to plant and water flowers, trees, shrubs, pruning using proper techniques.
  • Knowledge of horticulture, irrigation and/or gardening.
  • Ability to work as a team member was well as independent.
  • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
  • Customer service skills, including the ability to actively listen, address customer needs, defuse tense situations, and maintain an open, flexible, and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and reliable professional judgment, as well as collaboratively with a team to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to start and take initiative in completing daily tasks and longer-term special projects.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and report unsafe activity and conditions.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft products.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years of experience with native landscape maintenance or parks/forestry maintenance.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with irrigation systems.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with water conservation/efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with staff and members of the public.
  • Undertake planting tasks, including annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs.
  • Perform garden maintenance duties, such as weeding, deadheading blooms, pruning, and hand-watering.
  • Maintain hardscapes, including trash bins, neighborhood library box, and dog poop bags dispensers.
  • Performs mowing duties as assigned.
  • Load and unload garden waste for composting.
  • Clean, organize and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Establishes and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Occasionally assist with office tasks during inclement weather or engage in other efficiency-related duties.
  • Support staff in conducting indoor and outdoor residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and multifamily water assessments.
  • Participate in public outreach and educational activities to promote Water Efficiency programs, and events.
  • Collect and record field data, including water measurements, soil samples, and sprinkler clock schedules.
  • Aid in leak detection for customers.
  • Compile and distributes water efficiency program materials
  • Offer public information regarding the City’s water efficiency programs.
  • Computer work as requested by the Manager
