About The Position

Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a Seasonal Laborer - Electric Construction. As a member of the Electric Construction team at Cedar Falls Utilities, this individual will assist the Electric Construction crews in general labor duties such as driving non-CDL vehicles, washing line trucks, performing dirt work, furnishing tools, materials, and supplies to other workers. This individual will assist with cleaning work areas, machines, and tools, and painting. The hours for this position is 40 hours/week. The term for the position is expected to coincide with the typical summer break for college students. The Seasonal Laborer - Electric Construction works under general supervision of the Electric Construction & Line Supervisor. Please ensure all contact information is kept up to date. Compensation & Work Schedule: Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. $15/Hour - $20/Hour. Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 3:30pm with two 20 minute breaks.

Requirements

  • No education/prior work experience required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Iowa Driver's License and meet CFU insurability requirements.
  • Knowledge of: Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Skills: Operation Monitoring Skills: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine or equipment is working properly.
  • Active Listening Skills: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking Skills: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Customer Service Skills: Identifying the customer needs and understanding the impact to the customers through our decisions and behaviors.
  • Ability to: Read maps and understand layouts. Work in extreme hot or cold environments as work performed is outdoors. Follow instructions both verbal and written and adhere to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assists construction crews by helping to pull wire, put out rigger pads down for trucks, putting out cones and flags for work areas.
  • Cleaning up work area in the shop and job sites.
  • Performs manual labor tasks such as digging with shovel.
  • Reads work orders or receives instructions from crew leaders to determine work requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by crew leaders.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, coworkers, and management.
