About The Position

The Galveston Park Board is seeking Seasonal Grounds Maintenance staff for Stewart Beach and East Beach. This role is ideal for individuals with mechanical skills interested in the hospitality and tourism industry, working for a historic beach destination. The Galveston Park Board of Trustees, established in 1963, is responsible for Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB), and Coastal Zone Management (CZM), funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax and beach user fees. The organization's mission is to promote and support tourism on Galveston Island to foster a great place to live, work, and visit, sharing the island's natural resources, attractions, events, and heritage. As a groundskeeper, you will maintain the overall appearance of the park, performing routine mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, picking up trash, and monitoring for safety. You will also resolve visitor needs, report issues to the park manager, clean restrooms and common areas, and maintain your workspace, tools, and cleaning inventory. Effective teamwork is essential to ensure timely task completion and successful park operation.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified (CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire)
  • Fluency in English both verbally and in writing
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, including Surf Rake, Bobcat, and tractor
  • Ability to operate basic power and hand tools
  • Ability to operate a passenger vehicle and all-terrain vehicle
  • Ability to stand and walk for 10 hours a day
  • Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the overall appearance of the park
  • Perform routine maintenance, including basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work
  • Pick up loose trash around the park and deposit trash bags in dumpsters
  • Monitor for safety needs during park walkthroughs
  • Resolve visitor needs as they arise
  • Report any issues back to the park manager as needed
  • Keep restrooms and common areas for guests clean
  • Perform routine cleaning of your workspace, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain cleaning inventory and report low supplies to a manager
  • Work effectively with other employees to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the successful operation of the park
