About The Position

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a Seasonal Grounds Horticulturist. Under the direct supervision of the Horticulture Grounds Supervisor and Lead, this position is a general grounds maintenance position with a primary responsibility of turf and landscape management. This is a seasonal position with a maximum duration of six months, based on individual performance and business operations. The exact end date will be determined by the official start date.

Requirements

• Experience in commercial landscape maintenance.
• Possession of a current and valid drivers license is required upon employment.
• Experience in operating commercial mowing, trimming, and general maintenance equipment.
• Identification on the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
• General knowledge of the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
• Familiar with common pest, disease and weed identification.
• Understanding basic record keeping.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Nebraska pesticide applicators license is a plus.
• Horticulture degree is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide manual labor in turf management at the Zoo including mowing, weed trimming and manual weed control.
• Weekly watering on non-irrigated areas, fertilization, pest, disease and weed management as directed.
• Provide manual labor for the care and maintenance of all trees, shrubs and perennials in Rosenblatt Zone.
• Provide manual labor in support of other areas on the horticulture depart as necessary.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
